Building Healthy Communities (BHC)

Projects promote changes in policies and environmental settings where we work, congregate, and live. By supporting efforts to increase physical activity, healthier eating, and reducing exposure to tobacco products, BHC impacts the cardiovascular health of our communities. BHC funds have been used for innovative projects that will address these CVD issues and reverse the negative health trends in our communities. The following projects were funded with BHC funds:

Beautification of Henes Park in Menominee

  • Addition of woodchips
  • New park benches
  • Drinking fountain
Expansion of the Gladstone Park Trail
  • 1,140 feet of concrete trail added to existing lakeshore trail
Implementation of Mid Pen School Fitness Center
  • One treadmill
  • One stationary bike
  • One Elliptical machine
  • Interlocking rubber mats
Enhancement of Escanaba Farmers' Market
  • Promotion, marketing and implementation of EBT machine
Enhancement of Menominee Farmers' Market
