Safe Routes to School (SRTS)

• Enables and encourages children, including those with disabilities, to walk and bicycle to school.
• Makes bicycling and walking to school safer and more appealing transportation alternative, thereby encouraging a healthy and active lifestyle from an early age.
• Facilitates the planning, development, and implementation of projects and activities that will improve safety and reduce traffic, fuel consumption and air pollution in the vicinity of elementary schools.
• The following cities and schools have complete or are completing the SRTS project:
  • Escanaba:
    • Webster Elementary
    • Franklin Elementary
    • Lemmer Elementary
    • Soo Hill Elementary
    • Escanaba Middle School
  • Gladstone:
    • Cameron Elementary
    • James T. Jones Elementary
