Early Periodic Screening Diagnosis Treatment (EPSDT)


The intent of EPSDT is to find and treat problems early before they become more serious and costly to treat.

Assessing a child's health early and periodically detects potential diseases and disabilities in their preliminary stages when they are most effectively treated.

Services:

  • WIC
  • Preschool Screenings
  • Vision & Hearing Screening
  • Developmental / Behavioral Assessments
  • Well Child Visits (including immunizations)
  • Lead Testing for Children Under Age 6
  • Referral Services When Applicable

Program History:

  • Established in 1967 at a mandatory service for all children in the Medicaid program
  • Public Health is one of the few health departments in Michigan still offering EPSDT services to families.
