IMMUNIZATION REACTION TREATMENT

After immunization and for up to 24 - 48 hours, children may have irritability and moderate fever.  Slight tenderness, redness and swelling at injection site.  A small lump may remain for some time.


Rest as needed, encourage fluids, and use an aspirin free product for elevated temperature.  Do not rub injection site.  If needed, treat swollen area with intermittent cool application for 24 hours, warm after that.

7 - 14 days after immunization, a moderate fever and mild skin rash may develop.  NOTE: Client is not contagious to others.

Infrequently, mild swelling and tenderness of joints and / or swelling of neck glands may occur.


Rest as needed, encourage fluids, and use an aspirin free product for elevated temperature and as needed for discomfort.

Within one month of immunization child may experience rash, fever, pain, or redness at the injection site.

NOTE:  The potential spread of disease is theoretically possible when rash is present.
